Inclusive growth remains a challenge for Philippines

MANILA – Ensuring that economic gains are felt by the poor continues to be a challenge in the Philippines, despite growth rates that are among the fastest in Asia, officials said.

Gross domestic product grew by 7.1 percent in the third quarter, giving President Rodrigo Duterte a strong head start in the first three months of his term.

Improving communications between businesses and local governments is key to ensuring development in the countryside, according to Gerry Constantino, a director at the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines.
