City of San Carlos
As the City is strategically located intermediate to four major Visayas Cities of Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo and Dumaguete, it is considered the center of the Panay-Negros-Cebu Economic Zone. Because of this, it has been a hub for educational, residential, retirement and agro-industrial investments. San Carlos City is a second class component city in the province of Negros Occidental currently led by Hon. Mayor Gerardo P. Valmayor, Jr.
Its agro- industrial economy is centered on trade and industry that takes advantage of its vast and fertile agricultural land which comprise 66% of the City’s land area of 45,150 hectares. These rich agricultural lands have grown staple crops like rice and corn, and high-valued crops like cabbage, carrots, soy beans, mango, cashew and coffee. Sugar manufacturing is still one of the major industries in the City although vast sugar plantations have given way to real estate development for residential, commercial and industrial enterprises. An ethanol plant using biomass for renewable energy provides 6% of the City’s energy supply. The ethanol plant supports San Carlos City’s vision of a robust and vibrant economy pioneering as an agro-industrial energy renewal center in the Visayas and the Philippines. The City is home to renewable energy industries namely the San Carlos Bioenergy, Inc., San Carlos Solar Energy, Inc. (SACASOL), San Carlos BioPower Inc. (SCBio). The city is also a home of white sand beaches and rich marine resources, attribute to the growing fish and tourism industries of the San Carlos.
